Flexible Design Layout
The Artists/Photographers selection on the Pick
A Background Paper page presents you with numerous layouts for displaying your
artwork on custom printed gift wrapping paper. These can be used to create almost
any layout you might need.
These basic building blocks will be aligned by our systems to produce a finished
roll that is printed 23.6 inches wide (printed on 24 inch matte white paper) and
can be made to any length you request between 6 feet and 25 feet. Special order
arrangements allow for rolls up to 50 feet in length
These basic backgrounds are all plain white. Anywhere your image does not cover
the paper it will show as white. This can be a design element to use to your advantage.
Making your artwork smaller than the building block element will introduce a nice
separation when needed.
Alternately you can superimpose your image on any background you choose, solid,
stripe, pattern or another image and then place that layered image into the appropriate
pattern. Any layered image should be flattened before it is uploaded.
When designing your image it is important to remember that the images will abut
against one another. If you are using anything other than a solid color you must
make sure that the color and shading where the abutment occurs is the same. Otherwise
the eye will perceive a line separating the patterns on the finished gift wrapping
paper.

Paintings and Artwork
Out custom gift wrap paper will work with virtually any digital image file you
have. The editing software on the web site gives you the ability to shrink, enlarge,
rotate and move your images within the design template.
Often you will have your own editing capabilities in your software suite.
This will allow you to control these same functions, sometimes with a finer degree
of control. Whenever possible it is best to upload the image already sized for the
final template. We recommend that your image be 300 dots per inch resolution but
you should restrict it to be no more than 5 MB in size. We recommend that you use
a lossless file such as .png or .tiff when uploading your file. With special order
arrangement we can also accept your .ai and .eps files. If your image contains text
the file should be .ai or .eps or the resolution should be 600 dpi.
A Simple Design Example
This shows the dramatic differences one can achieve from a single picture.
The original photograph was a little whimsical and completely out of character for
the subject. We wanted to enhance that exaggeration.
While the original photograph was lovely, the dark background of the forest made
the overall coloring too heavy to simply replicate the image on wrapping paper.
One Picture, Two Approaches
For the design on the left, most of the background was erased leaving just a splash
of color to complement the dress. An embossed XXI was created to signify her twenty-first
birthday.
The second approach used an oval frame with some blending on the edges to soften
the transition. The color was picked from one in the dress.
Final Touches
Erasing the background was the more difficult part of the left design. After that
it was easy to blend the XXI into the stone bench and flatten the layers.
The oval design was quicker to construct. Once the frame was ready it was
a simple matter to touch up the photo and size it inside the frame for the desired
effect.
The final step for both was to size the image to exactly 1200 pixels tall
x 900 pixels wide and to flatten the layers.
Finished
Both of these gift wrap patterns are then made by uploading the images to the
Rectangle 4 x 3 Staggered pattern.
The possibilities are endless, restricted only by the imagination.
